How-To Guide
Follow-Up Messages

Now that you have the e-mail addresses of hundreds or thousands of volunteers and sponsors who have expressed dedication to the idea of NetDay, remind them of their duties by sending them checklists and reminders. Here is a series of sample messages to send out in the months and weeks before NetDay. Insert an e-mail signature with your state's Web site address at the bottom of each. Technical volunteers are included in both Messages 1A and 1B because they may sign up as either technicians or organizers on the Web site.

Message 2

To send to sponsors two months before NetDay

Dear NetDay Sponsor:

Thank you for your support for NetDay. Your participation is an invaluable asset for a movement that's sweeping every community in the nation. We want to make the very best of your generous contribution. One of the easiest ways you can help is by getting the word out about NetDay.

Promote NetDay inside and outside your organization. On the inside, encourage your employees to volunteer for NetDay. Outside, initiate contacts with schools, school boards, equipment suppliers, business partners, and customers. Encourage other businesses to sponsor a school.

Enclosed is a message you can send to your vendors and other business partners. Please personalize it with your own comments.

Thanks again!

Dear Community Leader:

We're sending you this message because we think that you're a good candidate to be a NetDay sponsor. As a sponsor, you're one of the most important links in the chain of other business owners, managers, and professionals who are helping us turn a dream into reality. With your generous contribution, we can help bring huge resources into the classroom and link learners, teachers, and your community together in all kinds of new ways.

Join other business leaders in your area and help us make NetDay a success.
Confirm your entry as a sponsor at the NetDay Web site: Choose a school, and enter your sponsor information on the school's home page.

Thank you!

Message 3

To send to sponsors, organizers, and all volunteers (three databases) one month before NetDay

Dear NetDay Sponsor, School Organizer, or Volunteer:

We still need more volunteers, organizers, and corporate sponsors to ensure that our mission is a success. Tell others about your participation in NetDay and talk about how our movement will help kids in communities everywhere.

Today's telecommunications technology can bring huge resources into the classroom and link learners, teachers, and their communities together in new ways. You know it, we know it. Help us spread the word!

Thank you,

NetDay

Message 4

To send to organizers and all volunteers (two databases) two weeks before NetDay

Dear NetDay School Organizer or Volunteer:

Here are some reminders to help you get ready for NetDay:

Organizers: Ask your volunteers to help find sponsors in your community if you're still short on materials, or to find a local restaurant to donate food and refreshments on NetDay. Also, remind volunteers to bring tools and equipment like wire snips, wire strippers, ladders, hammers, drills, and flashlights, and to bring safety goggles, dust masks, and to wear protective clothing like long-sleeved shirts and work gloves.

Volunteers: Check with your school organizer for instructions. If you haven't heard from your school, call and ask if anyone has volunteered to organize NetDay.
Thank you for your participation in NetDay. It couldn't happen without you!
