about Us

NetDay Student Voices Resource Center is a comprehensive research and collaboration space that provides resources to engage and involve students in technology-related decision-making. Our aim is to connect student voices with teachers, community members, government representatives, businesses, and others involved with technology in K-12 schools.

The NetDay Student Voices Resource Center (SVRC) is a tangible response to the chorus of voices we collected during our 2003 and 2004 Speak Up Day online surveys. Over 377,000 students in grades K-12 shared their ideas and opinions about technology use and strongly voiced their desire to be involved in education technology decision-making. The NetDay SVRC provides our nation’s students with the knowledge base, support tools, and peer network to insure that their good ideas on technology use can be effectively translated into meaningful actions at their schools and in their communities.

The NetDay Student Voices Resource Center is a comprehensive project designed to empower and engage students in grades K-12 to be part of local decision-making at their schools on the use of technology in education and to use that local community activism to drive change at the local, state, and national level. In addition, the SVRC will provide valuable support resources for parents and educators interested in understanding and supporting their students’ civic engagement in education issues. The SVRC has a unique online goal of stimulating and institutionalizing a three-way dialogue around the importance of student input with students, parents, and educators.

In addition, SVRC capitalizes on NetDay’s nine years of effective community engagement around education technology and a successful track record of developing web resources to provide solutions for emerging needs in the arena of using computer and network technology in education.
